Questions? Let's answer them!
How Much Does It Cost?
Great question. Carbon composite repairs typically range from $200 to $400 (sometimes more depending on the extent of damage). Factors that effect pricing include time to remove damaged carbon, repair design time, repair time, and fabrication materials. Check out our Pricing page for more information related to cost.
What is your turnaround time?
Turnaround time depends on the complexity of the repair. For example, a repair in the middle section of a tube can take a day to repair, and a repair at a tube intersection can take two or three days. A broken steer tube can take over a week to repair. Add between two and 7 days for shipping based on your location from Cleveland, OH.
How Strong Are Your Carbon Repairs?
That is a complicated question because there are more properties to a carbon frame other than strength. This includes compliance and yield properties that are designed into the frame for comfort and durability. Our repairs are designed to retain similar properties as the original carbon composite layup. This way, you can ride your bike with the same confidence and stride. For some interesting content, check out the Repair Testing page where we demonstrate our repairs.
What Are My Other Options?
In comparison to repairing your bicycle, a new carbon composite frame can cost between $2,000 and $4,000, and a warranty replacement will cost about 80% of a brand new frame, so around $1600 and up. Sometimes you can buy replacements, but there’s no guarantee they will be the same color or style.
What Bicycles Can You Repair?
We repair any carbon composite bicycle. This includes road bikes, mountain bikes, bike-packing bikes, BMX bikes, etc… We have the materials and expertise required to bring your broken bicycle back to life.
What Bicycle Repairs Do You Perform?
We can repair carbon composite dings, punctures, breaks, fractures, scuffs, and the likes. The evaluation and repair process does not change between the different types of damages.
What About Repairs You Do Not Perform?
We do not repair carbon composite handlebars, hoops, steer tubes, stems, or dropouts. The reason we do not perform these repairs is because the amount of time required to perform the repair is not cost effective.
How Do You Diagnose A Broken Frame?
Complete breaks are quite obvious to the naked eye, however, some damage may be hidden. We use an acoustical-type test that is commonly used in the aerospace industry. It is effective, affordable, and produces reliable results. Let’s just say it involves a very tiny hammer and an acute sense of hearing.
What If I Break The Repair?
Though this outcome is highly improbable, we do have a 5 year warranty that warrants damage due to repairman-ship. Other damages outside of repairman-ship will be repaired at 75% of the original repair cost. An example of this would be rock damage to a repair performed by Cleveland Carbon.
